Learn to Swim classes (LTS)
Our Learn to Swim classes are 30 minutes per week and are held on a Fridays 7pm and Sundays at 5:30, 6:00 & 6:30pm at Stevenage Swimming Centre. Lessons are available for children aged 4 years upwards and cover a mixed ability age range. Swimmers are assessed monthly and are tested after each course with the aim of achieving an award. All awards are made from the ASA National Teaching plan and all teachers are fully qualified to ASA Teacher (or Assistant Teacher standard if supervised). All swimmers are registered with the as ASA Category 1 members.
Subject to capacity and a successful trial, swimmer’s may be offered a place in one of our squads. An automatic upgrade to ASA Category 2 membership allows them to compete in galas organised by other swimming clubs.
The Mini Stars Squad is the starting development squad. Sessions consist of 25m lengths involving stroke work for 30 minutes per week. They then move to Stars squad (1.5 hours per week) and then onto Rising Stars squad (4.5 hours per week) to continue improving their strokes and start to prepare swimmers ready for competitive training. All swim sessions take place at Stevenage Swim Centre.
After reaching the required standard swimmers will be invited to join our competitive squads. Swimmers will be offered places according to age and ability and will be allowed to develop through the squads depending on their individual commitment. The competitive squads are Bronze, Silver, and Gold. We also have a Club squad which is usually for former Gold swimmers wanting to reduce the intensity of their training. Finally we have very successful Masters squad which is a friendly and popular outlet for our adult members.
All squad training takes place at Stevenage Swimming Centre with the exception of a Thursday morning session at the 50-metre Inspire Luton centre for Bronze and above, and weekly Land Training ‘strength and conditioning’ sessions at Nobel School, Stevenage.
